Much has been said and written about the globalization of the marketplace in the new century. More and more, business no longer sees their markets as limited to their community, state or even this country. To be successful in the new world economies, we have to see our markets as international if for no other reason than that our competition and our customers are seeing these markets.

The press likes to make a fuss about the effect of international trade on the national workforce. While that is a concern, the old axiom that every problem represents an opportunity applies well to this business paradigm. If we as business people begin to see the international business community as our opportunity to tap into markets and revenue streams otherwise unimaginable in another market environment, we can capture a new profitability that can come with success in those markets.

However, doing business in foreign markets demands some changes to how we go about structuring our contracts and sales and distribution networks. One of the most explosive markets that is just beginning to become available to western businesses are the wealthy cultures of the Middle East. With the explosion of the Dubai projects and the westernization of many of the Middle East cultures, it is becoming possible to “go retail in Riyadh” if we are willing to learn the culture and how to approach those markets. To do so, the following constraints should be taking into consideration.

§ Middle East markets are self protecting. Many Middle East countries restrict commerce to occur only between business entities within the country. This can be worked around utilizing partnerships with local businesses who can bring in your product and create a local franchise. The business is still yours, as are the profits, but the localization of your presence in a Middle East economy is set up to honor these restrictions.

§ Middle East markets work under Islamic Law. There will be interruptions for daily prayer and for Islamic holidays that you will be expected to honor. So be prepared to be respectful of these customs. Also be sensitive that nothing in your product offerings makes reference to other religious viewpoints. This is not being timid about our own culture. It is just being savvy about how to work profitably in an Islamic culture.

§ Distribution and management must be internationalized. You probably will not be able to set up a warehouse in the middle of Saudi Arabia with your company name on it. Because of the local bias of the states where you want to do business, take advantage of any existing distribution channels that go through Europe or other surrounding countries to route your product to the Middle East and turn over ownership, management and distribution of the product within the Middle East to your Arabic partners before the product enters the country. This careful set up of your network will pay off in the long run.

§ There are friends and enemies in the Middle East. Many fear doing business in the Middle East because of dangers due to recent conflicts. Just be aware that the west has many allies in these countries and there is a desire to partner with us within the more sophisticated economies in the Middle East. By taking care as you forge your relationships and using local wisdom to craft your business dealings, you can do business in the Middle East safely and profitably.

These are significant issues when considering whether it is time for your company to start offering your products and services to the wealthy nations of the Middle East. But if the time has come that your business is ready to start building those international commerce channels, the results can be tremendously profitable for your bottom line. The investment is worth the effort if the business structures are developed wisely.

When you set out to become a teacher, you set out to do more than just learn the skill of presenting information to a group of students. Going to bat for your student means that when you know a child is gifted, you use your influence with the administration to get that child the special educational opportunities that will develop that blessing in that child. If the gift is not in the area of broad educational excellence but in a specialized skill like music, art or athletics, you go to bat for that child to get him or her an audition with the coach over that area of school life. Because of the bond you share with your students, you at first be the only one to be able to see that talent in that child. But when you get her the specialized training she needs and that talent blossoms into a wonderful skill that can bless others and the child's life as well, you will have given her a gift for life.

Going to bat for your students also means not throwing any children away. When young people are put into your care, that is a serious commitment that you are making to those children. There is not one single child in your care of lesser value than the others. So one way you demonstrate your commitment to being a teacher to every child is when one of your students gets in trouble you go to him or her and find a way to save that child's educational career.

The last thing you want to see is a child expelled and sent out into the world with the stigma of "not good enough" for school. You have it in your power to get that child into alternative schools, to get him or her tutoring until this rough patch passes or to get him or her moved into a home school situation so the many years of education for that youngster are not lost over a difficult time in the life of the child.

The place you are granted in the life of your students is one of trust and caring that is a privileged one indeed. Be sure you protect and cherish that gift by going to bat for your students when they need you there. And who knows, down the road your students may come back and go to bat for you in some way when you really need them too.

For parents who have teeners, it is best to plan an adventure vacation for them instead of treating them in kiddie places or giving them material things that they don’t really need.

Planning an adventure vacation for teens can be worthwhile family activity because it ensures bonding time with the growing kids. If you are thinking of an adventure vacation for this age group, keep in mind what they will enjoy the most. Teeners nowadays are more into thrilling activities to keep them away from being bored. So, make sure that you include activities that will keep the physically active such extreme sports and others.

You can also treat them to an ultimate nature trip by bringing then to places with huge forests, rich fauna, and interesting wildlife.

Tips for parents

Aside from giving the teens a break from their studies or whatever that they are busy with, an adventure vacation is sure to make the bond of the family members tighter and stronger. This is because the family member will have the chance to spend as much time with each other during the trip.

But, before finally deciding to bring teens to a specific vacation destination, make sure that you consider the tips below.

1. Get their opinion. Unlike kids, teens are harder to convince in so many things. This is because they feel that they are old enough to take care and decide for themselves. To avoid conflicts and causes of arguments, make sure that you ask the teeners first about your plan. If you do this, they can suggest places where they want to go. Take note of the places or destinations that they have mentioned and conduct as simple research. List down the top three possible options and let them decide on it.

2. Never force them to go to a place that they don’t like. Parents should realize that teeners are starting to crave for independence. If they continue to command their kids and force them to do the things that they don’t really like, chances are, the trip would not be successful at all because nobody from them will cooperate.

3. Always be prepared. Wherever you go for an adventure vacation, make sure that you are well prepared. Some of the things that you should plan ahead is the time and length of your stay in a specific place, how to get there, the available accommodation and places where you can stay, the availability of basic travel necessities, the food available in case the teeners don’t like the local food, the activities that you can do, the places that you should not miss to visit, and of course, your budget.
