Birthday Party Safety at a Child's Party

If you're a parent of a young child then you probably always have something to worry yourself about when it comes to your child. Whether it's making sure that they don't access your prescription medications or keeping household cleaners up above where they can't be reached, small children usually always keep their parents on their toes. Holding a birthday party at your house is also something that has the potential of being very messy; however, with a few simple guidelines it shouldn't be hard to throw your child the birthday bash of a lifetime! There are millions of parents that give their children birthday parties every year with the best of intentions, but invariably there are some children who do get hurt in the process. But birthday parties are about fun, and you're worried about the other kids at your child's birthday then be sure to take into account some of the information that is being provided about birthday party safety for your child.

Enlist the Recruitment

If you're not married and don't have a significant other then you don't have the luxury of having a built-in helper. However, what happens when your child asks if he or she is able to have some friends over for their birthday? Of course you want to throw your child a great birthday party for him or her and the rest of their friends, but you may just be worried about what your liabilities are and what could happen. If you find yourself in this type of a predicament then you may try to enlist help from a couple of the other parent's of the children who are going to attend. Many single parents find that other moms or dads may be more than willing to help out, but they just would like to be asked first. A good rule of thumb is to have 1 adult to every 5 children there, so think about this before you decide to enlist help and plan the party!

Child-Proof your House

You may have had to baby-proof the house when your newborn baby started to crawl and walk and now you may need to do some of these same things, except on a larger scale. For your son or daughter's birthday party you definitely will want to start by cleaning and vacuuming your home. You may also want to cover the electrical outlets and get rid of everything big and breakable throughout your house. If you are unsure about something then chances are that it's a good idea to put it up for the night!

Keep the Birthday Party Alive!

Of course there are plenty of children's games that you can play at your son or daughter's birthday party, but the key here is to keep every child busy almost the whole time throughout the birthday party. What's that saying about idle hands? If there are several children who are bored during the party then that will make for a good recipe for mischief. You'll want to make sure that activities are planned for the whole birthday party!

All in all, giving your child a birthday party is usually fun for everyone involved. Making sure that you child-proof your home, get help from other parents, and have plenty of activities planned are just a few of the ways in which you can have birthday party safety for your child and others.

Safety Helps

Make sure your kids are safe. We all want to protect our children. When they are away at school, we have little control over their day. Prepare now for some basic school safety.

If your children walk to school, walk with them and check out safety concerns. Roads with busy traffic should have a crossing guard. Teach your children how to cross the street safely. They should stay on the sidewalk until the crossing guard gives them the signal to cross.

My family has a password that we use if someone else needs to pick them up from school. We have taught our children to ask for the password before going with anyone else. This way they know that it is okay to go with that person, because we gave them the password.

Safety also involves teaching your children about talking to strangers. Let them know which houses along their school route are safe to go to if they need help. Teach them about common practices that kidnappers use, such as asking for help finding a dog. Help them to understand the importance of staying in groups when walking. Talk to them so they are not frightened but understand how important these safety rules are. The best bet is to have them not talk to people they don’t know.

If your child needs medication during school, check out the policy at the school your child is attending. Each school differs on how they handle this. If possible, give your child any medication before and/or after school to avoid having someone else administer it to them.

Many schools have started an emergency kit in their classrooms and may ask for donations. If your child’s class doesn’t do this, you might suggest one. School safety starts with us.

Baby Monitors and Their Role in the Safety of Your Child

In the fast paced world we live in today, many obstacles come with juggling family life and work, especially with a new baby in the house. Often times, parents find it difficult to manage their efforts of doing chores while watching the baby.

No one can be at two places at the same time, and it has been one of the major dilemmas of parents who still want to be productive around the house but more importantly want to prioritize their child’s safety. This is the very reason why baby monitors have become very useful to many parents. These gadgets allow parents to monitor the baby’s activities while they are not inside of the nursery or are working at a distance.

What Is a Baby Monitor and How Does It Work?

A baby monitor is a gadget set that has a transmitter and receiver, which sends either sound or video (depending on the type) for the parent to be able to supervise the activities of the baby while he or she is away.

There are different types of these monitors –the audio, video or sensory. The audio baby monitor receives and sends sound so that the parent could hear the baby from a distance. The video monitor on the other hand works like a tiny TV by having a camera record the baby’s movements while the parent could watch on a small screen receiver. And the sensory monitor is a movement detector that alarms the parent when it cannot perceive any movement from the child for more than 20 seconds.

How Does It Play A Role In the Safety of the Child?

What baby monitors basically do, is allow the parents to know their child’s activities and to watch out for any possible problems from afar, especially if the baby is asleep. Through this, they could at least do their usual work without having to feel worried that their child might not be safe inside the room alone. Many of the hi-tech monitors nowadays, especially the video or even movement sensitive monitors instantly alert the parents when there are problems detected.

Sensory monitors even send alarms whenever it cannot detect movement from the baby for 20 seconds or more. Even the simpler models of these monitors like the audio monitor at least keeps the parents aware if their baby needs them, especially when the child cries. With this technology, parents are given a way to make sure that their baby is safe especially during times when no one is left inside the room to watch the child.

Nowadays, it is really difficult for any parent to be able to be by their child’s side 24/7. But despite such circumstances, it is good to know that technology has managed to make life easier by giving busy moms and dads the option keep an eye on their precious little one even when they aren’t in the same room.

And no matter how busy life may get, it is at least assuring to a lot of families that there is a gadget available that truly contributes to their peace of mind and adds to the precautions that parents place in providing for their child’s safety.

Professional Auto Racing Safety

If you have ever wanted to know how the auto racing professionals are able to withstand such high speeds in their vehicles then there is plenty of information that will tell you how the seat belts and restraint systems are set up. On the other hand, if you have never even thought about how auto racing individuals are able to sustain speeds of well over 200 miles per hour then the best thing to do would be to attend one of the national auto racing events just to see how they take place! In the end, though, professional auto racers are partly responsible for their own safety in the way that they handle the cars that they're driving. On the flip side, though, there must be some great restraint system in the car with them. Here is how part of the system works to keep the driver safe during an auto racing event:

Seat Belts

The first thing that one should realize about the safety belts that are used during an auto racing event is that they are extremely safe to deal with and there is nothing else like them! The main point of the safety belt during an auto racing event is the protect the driver, as is obvious, but the safety belt is a little different than any other normal passenger car on the market. For example, in a normal passenger car the seat belt is designed to have little impact on the driver during a crash, but instead restrain the driver so that he or she will not be injured. On the flip side, auto racing seat belts are the exact opposite. In conjunction with the automobile's seat, the seat belt of an auto racing car is designed to actually hold the driver down in the event of the crash and slow the driver down as well. This is most beneficial for an automobile designed for the auto racing industry considering the fact that there are many crashes that take place throughout the year.

The Five-Point Harness

Another part of the restraint system lies in the successful use of the five-point restraint harness. This is also perhaps the most important feature that has to be including with auto racing cars. In previous years, three-point harnesses were used in a lot of common restraint systems, but the NASCAR events that take place typically have the five-point harness so that the drive is secure, snug, and has no chance of flying through the windshield in the case of an auto racing accident.

Window Nets and Roof Nets

The window nets that are used in auto racing automobiles are designed to control the driver of the car during a crash. The window nets are just like they sound because they are made from nylon and they are designed literally to be like webs and nets that go over the windows. In the event of an auto racing crash there is little control by the driver, which is the main reason for this type of safety measure.

All of these things are designed to help the drivers of auto racing events protect themselves during a crash. As we all know, crashes during an auto racing event are all too common, especially at the high speeds that the drivers are allowed to go. But to say that the safety measures are ineffective is just plain wrong because they do end up saving many lives in the end!

Auto Racing Safety

Whenever there is an auto racing event then there is probably always going to be concerns of safety along the way. Even though auto racing cars generally have excellent restraint systems that will prevent auto racers from getting blown out of their car at almost 200 miles per hour, there still needs to be safety accessories that an auto racer has with them and on them at all times. Whether you are a fan of the professional auto racing events, though, or are just starting out performing at auto races across the United States unprofessionally, safety is a major issue that one should concern his or herself with. Just as there is safety equipment that is typically used in any other sport like basketball or football, auto racing has its own kinds of safety measures that go above and beyond what any other sport would consider.

There are also plenty of these auto racing stores throughout the country that carry all sorts of safety equipment for the auto racing professional or amateur. If you are one of these people who love to race their cars then chances are that you've already been to an auto racing store that sells safety equipment. Nevertheless, here are some of the essentials that an auto racer should have with them when racing:

Specialty Helmets

Believe it or not, there are actually specialty helmets that can be purchased just for the sake of auto racing. The helmets that are typically used during the auto racing events are lightweight helmets that fit over all parts of your head, and sometimes even extend a little bit behind the neck. Inside this specialty helmet are cheek pads, which cushion your cheek from the turbulence that comes from racing at dangerous speeds.

Racing Suits

Another one of the auto racing safety equipment that one should be wearing is racing suits. There are actually racing suits that are specifically designed for auto races and those who are involved with NASCAR and other major races throughout the country. These racing suits are not only made of lightweight material, but they also usually have an internal knit inside so that the racer will be warm and protected. The outside of the auto racing suits are usually satin, but it simply depends on the brand that is purchased whether or not it will contain everything listed here. The fact is, though, that auto racing suits are designed to withstand pressure and all the famous auto racing individuals do wear them.

Other Accessories

Gloves and boots are the other types of auto racing accessories that will be needed if you plan to pursue the adventure of racing your car. The specialty types of glove and boots that are needed will not only help withstand the pressure of being inside a racecar, but they also help the comfort of the racing individual as well.

All in all, there is plenty to think of when starting on your journey of auto racing. Safety is pretty much always an issue when it comes to any major professional sport and auto racing is no different!

Youth ATV Safety

ATV's were developed for use in agriculture, for hauling equipment and traveling around farm property. They have since evolved into a hobby for many people and are now even used for racing. People love the excitement that ATV's provide and the vast array of terrain that ATV's open up for exploring. ATV's can provide a lot of enjoyment for riders and be a worthwhile activity.

ATV's can also be dangerous, especially for children. Adults are often injured when they loose control of an AT and children have even less skill and experience than adults. This is not to say that children should not be allowed to ride an ATV, but they must follow strict safety rules in order to avoid injury.

Children should be taught that an ATV is not a toy and should be operated with care and with safety in mind. They should be made aware of all the safety rules and never allowed to ride without supervision. If children realize how dangerous ATV's can be and what they must do to stay safe, they will be at a much lower risk of injury.

The best thing you can do for your child before they are allowed to ride is send them to an approved ATV training course. Many places require riders under 16 to take a training course before they can legally ride which is a good idea anyway even if your area does not require it. You should attend the training course with your child so that you are also familiar with ATV safety and can enforce the safety rules your child learned.

Another important safety practice for you and your child is riding the correct sized ATV. Children should never ride an adult sized ATV, as they are usually too large for them to comfortably operate and increase the likely hood of injury. If you are going to purchase your child an ATV make sure you get a youth sized ATV that is not too large for your child. You should also consider the engine size as a more powerful engine means a faster ATV. Children should only drive an ATV that they can handle.

Wearing appropriate safety gear is also an important part of ATV safety. Children should always wear helmets, gloves, goggles, long pants and a long sleeved shirt. Most places require helmet use by law but even if they do not a helmet should always be worn. Using safety gear will prevent many injuries that can occur when riders fall. Make sure that the safety equipment you purchase for your child fits properly and is of high quality. You should make sure that the safety gear your child uses is rated for ATV use.

The last thing you should always do to keep your child safe, is to inspect their ATV before each use. Teach your child how to inspect their ATV as well and you can then both make sure it stays in good working condition and will not break or malfunction during use. If you and your child follow these safety tips, your child will have a safe and enjoyable time with their ATV.

Tips for Youth ATV Safety

ATV riding can be a great pastime for a child, and if they follow the proper safety precautions, it can be a safe one as well. Many children and adults are injured every year from the result of ATV accidents, and many of these injuries are preventable if the riders had only taken the proper safety precautions. Children are especially prone to injure themselves when riding an ATV because they do not have the skills and maturity level of an adult.

ATV's are powerful machines and children can have a hard time controlling them as well. This is not to say that ATV's are not suitable for children, but children should follow some safety tips to reduce their chances of being injured while on their ATV.

Children should be taught the correct way to use an ATV before they are allowed to ride and should understand the safe way to operate one before they ride. They should know that an ATV is not a toy and can be very dangerous. Children should be taught the correct way to turn, brake, and how to control the ATV. Many places require minors to take a training course, and even if your area does not it is still a good idea. These courses will teach your child how to safely ride an ATV and will give them experience handling one.

Wearing safety gear is the best way to prevent injury. Children should always wear helmets and other safety gear whether it is required by law or not. They should also wear goggles and gloves to protect their hands and eyes. Apparel designed with durability in mind is also important as durable pants and jackets will prevent many scrapes and abrasions in the event of a fall. Children should not wear baggy clothing while riding as it can be caught or pulled in the engine and cause injury.

Children should know safe places to ride and always ride with supervision. They should not be allowed to ride near roadways, train tracks, or on paved surfaces. Riding near cars is extremely dangerous and illegal in many areas. Riding on pavement is also dangerous as ATV's are designed to run on dirt and can easily spin out of control on pavement or cement. Train tracks can also be hazardous and cause an ATV to flip over or get stuck.

You should know your child's ability and they should only ride at a speed and on terrain that is suitable to their experience level. Accidents frequently occur when a child is riding faster than they should or on terrain that is too challenging for them. Make sure you child is experienced enough to handle the terrain and speed they are traveling.

Children should not be allowed to take passengers as this is another practice that causes accidents. Passengers can distract a child driver and make the ATV harder to maneuver. Children should also be involved in the maintenance of their ATV and should only ride their ATV if it is in safe working condition. If children follow these safety rules, they should have a safe and enjoyable time with their ATV.

Mayo MedAir Puts Safety First

The Mayo Clinic is well known for their top-notch medical standards and quality. People from all over the world enlist the services of the Mayo Clinic when medical situations arise that need specialized care. Like the Mayo Clinic, Mayo MedAir puts the patient and safety first. Any patient that requires air ambulance transport will be properly monitored, comfortable, and safe during the flight.

Mayo MedAir is a member of the Commission on Accreditation of Medical Transport Services. Although no federal standards exist in the industry, air ambulance companies certified by the Commission on Accreditation of Medical Transport Services are known to meet or exceed minimum standards. Such standards include competency and safety requirements. Standards in education, administration, communication, and maintenance are also considered. Mayo MedAir is the only CAMTS certified air ambulance company in the state of Minnesota, and one of few companies around the globe to make this level of commitment.

Mayo MedAir flights are known for their safety record. Each air ambulance has two pilots on board. The pilots are required to have numerous hours of experienced flight time. Several hours of flight time in high-traffic areas are a requirement for Mayo MedAir pilots. Unlike some other air ambulance companies, Mayo MedAir does not send out a single pilot on a medical mission. The pilots at Mayo MedAir are dedicated to medical missions. They are not pulled away from other positions to man a flight in an emergency.

The medical staff that accompanies the patient are a team of no fewer than two members. Each medical team is highly trained to tackle any condition the patient may have or an emergency that arises during transport. In specialized cases, the Mayo MedAir medical team may consist of more members that can directly deal with the specific medical needs of the patient. This fact is especially important in cases involving the need for NICU services or a respiratory therapist, for instance. Each member of the team works at the Mayo Clinic and is specially trained for critical care.

The medical team has a medical director above them that oversees their work. This position is filled by a Mayo Clinic physician trained in emergency care. The medical director is responsible for the actions of the medical team during the flight and transport, so the quality standards and safety record remains high. The care of the patient becomes top priority.

Safety of the patient is of utmost importance to Mayo MedAir. For this reason, each air ambulance carries standard equipment that allows the patient to receive proper treatment during transit. In addition to specialized medical tools and equipment, the air ambulance has the technology to stay in contact with physicians on the ground during the entire flight. Whether communication is via phone, email, or text message, the medical team and hospital are aware of all circumstances during transit.

It is clear to see that Mayo MedAir is committed to patient safety. This air ambulance service is dedicated to quality service. Every aspect of safety and patient care has been considered.

Consider Safety First When Choosing an Air Ambulance

Times of stress often leave people feeling drained and unable to think clearly. When you or a loved one are suffering from medical conditions, stress levels are high. It is important to think of safety first when deciding on which air ambulance company to use. Here are some suggestions to help you put safety first in the decision.

Don't let the stress and circumstances cloud your mind. Research the air ambulance service thoroughly before making the decision to use their services. Learn about the company and their history. Find out what certifications the pilot and flight crew must possess. Do the pilot and other crew members meet all FAA requirements and certifications? Is the pilot required to have flight-simulator training? If so, how often.

Some companies will permit only a single pilot to fly the aircraft. Although this is not deemed unsafe, it is a good idea to fly with an air ambulance service that offers two pilots in the cockpit.

Inexperienced pilots may not have the hours and background to safely transport patients on a medical mission. Locate an air ambulance company that uses pilots solely dedicated to medical missions that require numerous hours of flight time.

Ask about the company's safety record. Although most companies who offer air ambulance services have excellent safety records, you can never be so sure. Find out for yourself. Do your homework to make sure the company follows the strictest guidelines in the industry.

Find out if the air ambulance company is a member of CAMTS. This means that the company is certified by the Commission on Accreditation of Medical Transport Services. Membership varies throughout the industry, but with no federal standards in place, it is a way to be certain that minimum competency and safety standards are being met. To receive certification, the company commits to being evaluated on educational standards, safety, equipment, staffing, maintenance,

Communication, and administration.

When considering an air ambulance transportation service, find out if the company employs a medical director. This person should be a licensed physician trained in all the areas of critical care and emergency treatment. This person should be available for consultation during a transport if questions should arise. Also, to encourage quality control, this individual will review the circumstances of the transport to ensure that all medical protocols were followed correctly.

This person oversees the training of medical staff and is responsible for the actions of the medical team during the transport. A company with such a person on staff has a lot at stake, so quality and standards will be high in such a case.

How many medical professionals accompany the patient during transport? In many situations, an air ambulance service may only send out one medically trained person on each flight. In some instances, this is safe for patients, but if an emergency should occur, it is best to have a minimum of two medically trained personnel on hand to completely handle the emergency situation. The trained staff should have experience in emergency treatment and critical care. In specialized cases, more members should accompany a patient and the number of the team increases. This is true in cases that require a respiratory therapist, for example.

Investigating air ambulance services may seem overwhelming at the time, but knowing that the patient's needs should come first is important. Safety of the patient is evident in companies that strive for excellence. Check out the air ambulance company and their safety record for an indication of the company's quality and level of experience before making the final decision.
